Pogey Bait

This Memorial Day Shannon and I spent some time doing chores around our own house. He was working in his new garage (don't ask - don't tell policy) and I was pressure washing the deck and sidewalk in the rain. I assumed Fischer was in the garage with his Dad and that if he left Shannon would either #1 let me know or #2 keep an eye on him. Well neither were true -- so after about an hour or so - I hear Shannon come around to inspect my work. I ask him what Fischer was up to, his answer "I don't know...haven't seen him." Okay - I decided I better check on him. So I take off my boots and dripping wet walk into the kitchen. What do I see? Well I see strawberry milk powder ALL OVER the counter and floor. I also see a pair of scissors on the counter. I call out to Stick and he answers "up in my room, Mommy!" so I head up to survey the scene.

He's in bed (took off his wet clothes - not sure how they got wet), turned on his movie player, drinking strawberry milk (more like strawberry syrup) and finishing off a bag of Skittles. I have to give him props because he tried to clean up the mess with the Swiffer - which just spread it around but he did try. Hayden was there as well playing Legos and made it very clear that he did not help and that Fischer was eating Skittles and he wanted it on the record that he was not a part in that crime.

Lesson learned: Fischer is sneaky! Not that we didn't already know that!

Return of the Bullheads

After a long weekend in Arizona (I know that it is a dry heat but 108 is still just DAMN hot), I was glad to come home to some great Washington weather. It's amazing how fast the grass grows when there is rain and a little bit of sunshine. But back to my rant....we headed to Lummi Island this weekend to help get the house ready for summer. My folks had already done a lot of the heavy lifting but we were able to do a little helping. Typically the bullheads are "back in season" by Memorial Day but we tried and tried this weekend and all Fischer caught (yep, only Fischer got a fish!) was a flounder. Shannon and my brother were convinced is was a "baby" halibut but it was a flounder.

I've Googled to figure out where those ol' Bullheads go but there is no information. I'm pretty sure not too many folks do their thesis on the migration of the Bullhead. But they are not back yet and the water felt REALLY cold this weekend. I hope they return soon as Fischer just can't stand it not catching something.

Hayden is now 6 years old and has several friends on the beach. It brought me a lot of joy to watch him go up and down the beach non-stop for the entire weekend with his friends. It reminded me a lot of when I was growing up on the beach and also watching my cousins at Whidbey Island. I have to sometimes remember that Fischer is not quite yet 3 years old and he shouldn't have as much freedom. :-)

Rain, rain go away

I guess even a tried and true Washingtonian can be terribly sick of the rain. Put me in that group. I can not believe that it has been raining for nearly two days AGAIN. However, if we can make it through the day the forecasts is showing sun and HOT for the next few days. How can you go from 55 to 85 in one day?

Either way Shannon and I are going to Phoenix for the weekend. He has golf and "conference" and I'm going to read some books by the pool. So some sun in my forecast. Can't wait!
